The Nameless Call

Inside Costa Rica

short film

The project:

In 2019, Costa Rica obtained 99% of its energy from renewable sources, marking an important milestone in its path towards carbon neutrality.

In the same year, The Nameless Call took shape - a travel across Costa Rica in a quest for places, faces and experiences to bridge the void between man and nature.

The Nameless Call is an independent short film that explores current environmental themes through alternative storytelling. It doesn’t take the tone of a climate change documentary, nor the style of a travel video on sustainable tourism. It is a non-linear narration of a personal change of course inspired by the beauty of an unexploited world.

The brand:

Wow Tapes is a creative video agency based in Rome and active worldwide. They capture wow moments on digital tape.

Concept:

The Nameless Call is a visual stream of consciousness outside of us and among the elements, and inside of us into the emotions that bind us to them. In this journey, we are called to rid ourselves of our identities as individuals and as a species to reunite with all things nature. This process of reconciliation is symbolised by the obscurity of the name and the decentring of the primacy of human consciousness to usher in a planetary consciousness that doesn’t need names to exist, but simply is.

My role:

I worked with Wow Tapes for the concept and wrote the screenplay, electronic media press kit and e-mail marketing campaign for the release.
The only thing I didn’t do with them was the trip :(

Awards

The short film won several international awards like Amorgos Tourism Film Festival 2020, Oniros Film Award 2020, Venice Short Film Awards and Art&Tur international Film Festival 2020.
